The adage ‘actions speak louder than words’ was perhaps no more applicable than on January 21st of this year on Capitol Hill. As Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States, he delivered a speech full of misnomers, half-truths, and outright fabrications that have come to define his Presidency.

For many in society, it has become commonplace, perhaps normal, to accept lies from our Politicians and elected officials. We can observe that with each passing scandal, the public trust weakens but does not wane completely – rather, the focus often turns to the potential of a savior who vows to ‘clean things up’ and do the right thing.

In 2008, The United States faced historic economic problems. Barack Obama, hailed as a cool, calm, collected, and more importantly charismatic figure, was seen to be the solution to all of the country’s ills. He swept into office in January 2009 with the strongest electoral mandate in a generation, thanks in large part to his ability to deliver grand speeches often containing even grander promises.

Enjoy this episode examining Obama’s (2nd) inaugural speech!
